Kitchen Catechism: Prayers

WORLD WIDE PERIOD OF PRAYER FOR FAMILY FARMERS
October 16th through November 25th

Oct 16 through Thanksgiving is a National Period of Prayer for Family Farmers in the United States. We urge all Catholic Women to join in this prayer effort, not just nationally but as a World Wide period of prayer for family farmers. October is the month of the Holy Rosary so it would be appropriate to ask Our Blessed Mother, using the powerful prayers of the rosary, to intercede on behalf of all farm families.

A MILLENNIUM MESSAGE

As we enter the Third Millennium it is interesting to read words written by St. Bernard of Clairvaux early in the Second Millennium.

Bernard was a monk, an eloquent preacher, a scholar, a theologian as well as a writer. He was considered the dominant influence in the religious and political sphere of Western Europe during the last forty years of his life. It was a time of upheaval and turmoil and because Bernard was very successful in defending the Catholic faith against heresy and schism his advice should have special value and meaning to our age.

In dangers, in doubts, in difficulties, think of Mary, call upon Mary. Let not her name depart from your lips, never suffer it to leave your heart. And that you may obtain the assistance of her prayer, neglect not to walk in her footsteps. With her for guide, you shall never go astray; while invoking her, you shall never lose heart; so long as she is in your mind, you are safe from deception; while she holds your hand, you cannot fall; under her protection you have nothing to fear; if she walks before you, you shall not grow weary; if she shows you favor, you shall reach the goal.

-St. Bernard

St. Bernard is also the author of the Memorare -- a prayer loved by many.
